BT Mapping

Mapping out a connected future

BDUK was an initiative set up by the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) to stimulate investment in the UK’s broadband infrastructure in hard to reach and rural areas which were not covered by the commercial investment programme.

We developed this tool for the BDUK roll out programme, Openreach and DCMS, to allow customers to enter either a phone number or postcode into a search box and the system then reports back a message on the current availability of fibre broadband to their business or home premises. Their location is then shown on a google map showing the current status of their geographic area.

This information is automatically updated from a central database of over 26 million records.

This software is then incorporated into over 12 regions including Scotland and Wales, the Openreach website, the Governments National Broadband roll out programme and is used by over 150,000 people a week.

The software is responsive and allows users to access the information via smart phones and tablets as well as desktops.

"Vitamin Cornwall (Creative Edge) have built a number of web sites and web applications for us over the past 3 years to support our fibre broadband marketing campaigns. The sites are highly useable, flexible and mobile-friendly. One of the applications has become a strategic application for our fibre business. We value Creative Edge for their development skills, agility, creative ingenuity and can-do approach."
